Do Entrepreneurs Need Luck?

Taking advantage of an event honoring Purdue’s 2011 Old Masters, we recently provided a dozen students the opportunity to spend an evening with these successful Purdue graduates. The Old Master’s were asked to introduce themselves and provide a brief description on how they got to where they are today. Many gave the audience a short story of exactly that, except for one Old Master, Dan Baker – Vice President/ General Manager of Sabre Industries, Inc. a company that provides infrastructure products and services to the telecommunication industry and a graduate from Purdue with a degree in Construction Engineering and Management in 1985.

Dan grabbed our attention and led his personal introduction with a series of short and sweet quotes or phrases. One in particular grabbed my attention and really resonated in the mind frame of entrepreneurs.

“Luck is the cross-road of opportunity and hard work.” – I couldn’t agree more.

Successful entrepreneurs seem to have “luck” but digging deeper it stems from their due diligence and perseverance – hard work and proper market analysis and viable products/ideas – opportunity.
